What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the leading technique on assisted reproduction, resulting in the birth of more than 8 million babies. Through surgery, the woman’s ovums are retrieved directly from the ovaries, and are furtherly fertilized under laboratory conditions. After their fertilization, they are injected back to the woman’s womb.

When should I try to use the method?

Couples willing to conceive through IVF should reach for the medical procedure after trying to conceive naturally for one consecutive year. Each month, a couple only has a 20% chance of success, and this percentage is raised up to 90% when the efforts continue steadily for a whole year. Couples should be patient and wait for the results to come naturally, before turning their focus to the method.

Do I Need the IVF Method

A couple is advised to use the method, if the male or the female is diagnosed with one of the following.

  • Low count of sperm cells
  • Endometriosis
  • Issues with the Womb/Ovaries
  • Disorders with ovulation
  • Sperm unable to survive on cervical mucus
  • Other Relevant Health Issues

How successful is IVF;

IVF success rates vary in each case, depending on many variables, such as the female’s weight or height, the male’s sperm count, etc. Age is also a significant factor, as women aged more than 35 years old are less likely to conceive through IVF.
